500-Plus Hectares of State Forest Will Be Re-Designated to Build Parking Facility Near Zemen Monastery

Municipal councilors approved the re-designation of over 500 hectares of state forest land intended for the construction of a public parking facility near the Zemen Monastery. According to Iva Borisova, Chair of the Zemen Municipal Council, the decision was made during a meeting held on Thursday. Mayor Mihail Zlatanov submitted a proposal requesting the change of designation for the state-owned plot, aiming to transfer it to municipal ownership for the development of the public parking area.

The Mayor cited the property’s location in close proximity to the Zemen Monastery, a site that draws significant year-round tourism. He noted that the current lack of designated parking space for buses and private vehicles often complicates visitor access to the monastery. In addition to the land reallocation, the council approved several other proposals concerning local infrastructure and community support.

Funds were allocated for the restoration of land within the Municipal Land Fund across the villages of Divlya, Dolna Vrabcha, and the town of Zemen. Furthermore, the council earmarked financial resources for several cultural and community events. These funds are designated for the traditional fair at the Zemen Monastery, support for the Pantele convention, and general funding for various local community gatherings and church feasts.

These decisions reflect the council’s efforts to manage both infrastructure development and cultural preservation within the municipality.
