500-Plus Hectares of State Forest Will Be Re-Designated to Build Parking Facility Near Zemen Monastery

Municipal councilors approved the re-designation of over 500 hectares of state forest land to facilitate the construction of a public parking facility near the Zemen Monastery. According to Iva Borisova, Chair of the Zemen Municipal Council, the decision followed a request from Mayor Mihail Zlatanov. The proposal sought to transfer the designation of the state-owned coniferous forest property to municipal ownership for the development of the facility.

The Mayor argued that the land’s location near the Zemen Monastery, a site that draws substantial year-round tourism, necessitates improved infrastructure. Currently, the area lacks designated space for buses, and the gathering of private vehicles often impedes visitor access to the monastery. Beyond the parking initiative, the council approved several other proposals concerning local development.

These included plans for the restoration of land originating from the Municipal Land Fund within the villages of Divlya, Dolna Vrabcha, and the town of Zemen. Furthermore, the council allocated funds to support various community and cultural events. Specific allocations were made for the traditional fair at the Zemen Monastery and the Pantele convention.

Additional funds were also earmarked to support all local community gatherings and church feasts, reflecting broader support for civic and religious life within the municipality.
