For Grande Partenza Event of 109th Giro d’Italia Hosted by Bulgaria Go as Planned

Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, conducted an online working meeting with representatives from institutions responsible for organizing the initial three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports on Friday, the meeting addressed the current organizational progress, inter-institutional coordination, and upcoming key activities. Minister Iliev assessed the preparedness of all involved parties, stressing that effective coordination among institutions is crucial for the successful staging of the event.

He acknowledged the efforts made thus far, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, the joint commitment of all bodies ensures progress with confidence. He affirmed the continuation of full coordination to guarantee the competition’s success. Participants confirmed that preparations are advancing according to the established plan, with measures in place for security, logistics, and overall organization.

Discussions also covered safety protocols for both participants and spectators, alongside ensuring the optimal conduct of the competition. The Giro d’Italia is scheduled to commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea on May 8. The race route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv before concluding in Sofia on May 10.

In anticipation of the Giro in Bulgaria, BTA has launched a dedicated section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria” to cover the three stages taking place from May 8 to 10, 2026.
