Six new instances of measles have been reported in Bulgaria, bringing the cumulative total to 165 confirmed cases as of April 23, according to data published by the Ministry of Health. The recent additions were distributed across several regions: Vratsa reported two cases, Lovech reported two, and single cases were recorded in Pleven and Sofia. In response to the spread of measles, public health authorities have initiated heightened monitoring.
The Ministry of Health noted that the initial cluster of eight measles cases was confirmed on March 19, originating in the Vratsa region. Following these initial reports, authorities mandated emergency immunization efforts targeting all children who had not received adequate vaccination coverage. Regarding preventative measures, Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients’ Rights Directorate at the Ministry of Health, reported that 20,000 children had been vaccinated against measles, mumps, and rubella since early March.
These efforts underscore the ongoing focus on maintaining community health standards. The continued surveillance of measles cases highlights the importance of robust public health responses. The Ministry continues to advise the public to adhere to recommended vaccination schedules to control the spread and mitigate the risk associated with measles outbreaks across the country.
