Six additional instances of measles have been reported in Bulgaria, bringing the cumulative total to 165 cases as of April 23, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. The recent cluster of cases includes two reports from Vratsa, two from Lovech, and one each from Pleven and Sofia. In response to the outbreak, the Ministry of Health has been actively monitoring the situation.
Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients’ Rights Directorate, confirmed that since early March, 20,000 children have received vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella. The initial confirmation of measles cases occurred on March 19, with the first eight instances identified in the Vratsa region. Following this initial surge, health authorities implemented measures, including ordering emergency immunization for all children who were overdue for their vaccinations.
These ongoing reports underscore the continued focus on public health management concerning vaccine-preventable diseases. The sustained effort to track and manage measles cases remains a priority for the national health system. Authorities continue to urge heightened vigilance and adherence to immunization schedules to control the spread of the virus and safeguard community health.
