The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 opened Friday and will continue through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this forum marks the 12th consecutive year, having begun in 2018. This year, 99 exhibitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany are participating.
The event is anticipated to draw over 12,000 visitors, showcasing the latest trends in campers, caravans, and recreational vehicles, alongside camping gear, water sports, cycling products, and outdoor activities. According to Camping.BG founder Veselin Valev, interest in camping tourism in Bulgaria is increasing. Valev noted that equipment prices vary widely, ranging from approximately EUR 100 up to EUR 100,000 for campers.
He explained that a trailer, which must be towed, offers similar amenities to a camper but suits different travel preferences. He advised that a camper is better for mobility and short stops, while a caravan is better for longer stays in one location. Organizers recommend beginners utilize regulated campgrounds, which provide amenities like showers and toilets, rather than wild camping.
Bulgaria currently has over 200 campsites, with inland facilities often boasting higher service levels, including modern thermal campgrounds. The expo provides practical advice, with dedicated sessions covering topics such as converting vans into campervans and choosing between renting or buying. The event emphasizes responsible camping, featuring presentations on sustainable travel across various global destinations.
Furthermore, all day, a sports area will offer demonstrations, and the overall infrastructure, particularly quality roads, remains a key area for sector development to support both domestic and international tourism.
