The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 commenced on Friday and will continue through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this event marks the 12th consecutive year of the forum. This year, 99 exhibitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany are participating, with expectations of attracting over 12,000 visitors.
The expo showcases the latest trends in recreational vehicles, including campers, caravans, and camping gear, alongside products for water sports, cycling, and outdoor activities. According to Camping.BG founder Veselin Valev, interest in camping tourism in Bulgaria is increasing. Valev noted that while equipment costs vary widely, ranging from EUR 100 to EUR 100,000 for campers, trailer options offer a budget-friendly alternative.
He advised that a camper is better suited for transit, while a caravan is more suitable for extended stays in one location. Beginners are recommended to start at regulated campgrounds, which offer amenities like showers and hot water, as wild camping can be less comfortable. The expo provides practical advice, with Saturday sessions covering topics such as converting vans into campervans, solar systems, and choosing between renting or purchasing vehicles.
Sunday focuses on responsible camping, in partnership with the For the Earth environmental association, featuring presentations on sustainable travel across regions like South America and Iceland. Furthermore, the event features a dedicated sports area and children’s activities throughout the weekend. Organizers highlighted that while the sector is growing, improving infrastructure, such as roads leading to campsites, remains a key challenge for developing camping tourism.
