Following statements from Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev regarding alleged pressure to resign, Continue the Change (CC) leader Assen Vassilev commented on Facebook. Vassilev stated that in Bulgaria, it appears that as soon as someone begins doing their job, they are immediately targeted with false accusations. He described the threats directed at Secretary General Kandev as “absolutely scandalous.” Furthermore, Vassilev asserted that the replacement of the Supreme Judicial Council and the reform of the judiciary are necessary steps toward achieving a prosperous and just Bulgaria aligned with European standards.
His post was accompanied by a photograph of Kandev, captioned with “I won’t go home.”
Earlier on Friday, Kandev posted a video message on Facebook. In the video, he mentioned receiving a directive to leave but affirmed that he would not succumb to threats or private negotiations. The context of the dispute arose after Kandev was informed that individuals, including a person referred to as “Kartofa” [The Potato], had provided false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office on Thursday.
