Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, taking over from the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, as announced on Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes the ownership role, Sirakov will retain the position of club president. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding after successfully stabilizing the club during a challenging period, emphasizing that continuity in leadership is vital for Levski’s future.
Bostandjiev expressed his commitment to maintaining the club’s identity and independence while aiming for sustainable success both athletically and operationally. He welcomed Sirakov’s continued role as president. A key component of Levski’s future strategy is the development of a new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.
Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, which carries an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million. The proposed stadium will accommodate 24,718 spectators according to Bulgarian Football Union standards and 23,032 under UEFA guidelines. Construction is slated to commence in the spring of 2027.
Beyond its sporting function, the facility is designed as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting events such as concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, a firm specializing in emerging markets. His professional background includes roles as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he managed emerging markets across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
