Folklore Group Chilnovski Babi to Participate in Munich Festival

The authentic folklore group Chilnovski Babi, hailing from the village of Chilnov in Bulgaria’s Ruse Region, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at BMW Park in Munich. Stefka Atanasova, the group’s artistic director, announced that the group plans to perform two songs: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.” She noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with significant enthusiasm, coinciding with the ensemble’s 40th anniversary.

Atanasova described the group as composed of women from various ethnic backgrounds within Bulgaria. The age range of the members spans from approximately 60 to 83 years old. Atanasova recounted the group’s founding in March 1986 in Chilnov, stating that the initial members were “still graceful and splendid.” The group was formed with the intention of promoting Bulgarian culture through song and custom, both domestically and internationally.

The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is organized for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative originated with the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which has hosted previous editions. The 11th festival in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
