As of mid-April 2026, the General Labour Inspectorate reported a decline in overall workplace accidents. According to Executive Director Ekaterina Asenova, a total of 126 workplace accidents have been reported through this period, marking a decrease from the 157 recorded during the same period in 2025. Fatal workplace accidents stood at 26, down from 36 in 2025, while non-traumatic fatal incidents were reported at 14, compared to 19 in the previous year.
Asenova noted that statistics indicate that 90% of workplace accidents are preventable if occupational safety rules are strictly followed. Common causes cited include crushing, entrapment, falls from height, and being struck by falling objects. High-risk sectors identified as of mid-April 2026 remain construction, crop and livestock farming, metal product manufacturing (excluding machinery and equipment), and trade.
