A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian at the Balgarche Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, is set to open with support from Bulgaria on May 2. According to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa, this initiative falls under a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities across several countries. The project proposal, submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, aims to preserve and develop Bulgarian culture, including linguistic identity.
The primary objective of the support is to utilize modern teaching tools to help students of Bulgarian descent maintain their historical ties with Bulgaria. Ivanov noted that the support is particularly vital as the school operates within a mixed-population area. Established in 2014, the Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche has expanded its reach, opening additional branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka.
Beyond language instruction, the school provides workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts, engaging a total of 341 students in extracurricular activities. Forty-five teachers currently staff the various branches. The development of this multimedia classroom represents a commitment to enhancing the quality of language education.
The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad, underscoring its role in cultural continuity and education within the local community.
