On April Uprising Revive Memory of Freedom Martyrs, Says BTA Director General

Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), Kiril Valchev, stated that discussions surrounding the April Uprising serve to remember the martyrs who fought for Bulgarian freedom. He made these remarks at the opening of a conference held at the Historical Museum in Panagyurishte, marking the 150th anniversary of the 1876 April Uprising. This event concludes a series of discussions organized by BTA across the four revolutionary districts—Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte—as well as in Ruse and Giurgiu.

During the talks, participants discussed several key lessons from the April Uprising. Valchev emphasized that a crucial consensus reached was the necessity of defining overarching goals before undertaking difficult steps to achieve them. He noted that the historical narrative suggests that what appeared to be an unsuccessful event ultimately led to the success of Bulgaria’s freedom.
