Personnel from the Burgas Naval Base recently recovered and examined two items—an air defence missile engine and an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone)—that were found washed ashore in the vicinity of the Sunny Beach resort. According to the Ministry of Defence, both objects were deemed non-hazardous and subsequently transported to the naval base for further assessment. The initial investigation occurred on April 22, when a specialized team from the base was dispatched to a section of the beach.
During this mission, servicemen identified an object that was determined to be the booster stage of an air defence missile. Following safety protocols, the missile component was secured and moved to the base. Subsequently, on Wednesday, another specialized team was deployed to survey an area approximately 150–200 meters northeast of Nessebar.
This deployment followed reports from the Regional Directorate of the Border Police concerning an unidentified drone spotted at sea. Military personnel began surveying the area at night and continued the effort Thursday morning with assistance from a Bulgarian Navy boat. The crew located and identified the drone, noting that it was missing its nose section and contained no explosive components.
Both the missile engine and the drone were assessed by military personnel as posing no threat. These operations were conducted by Navy personnel at the request of the Burgas Regional Administration, pursuant to directives issued by the Chief of Defence and the Navy Commander. The successful recovery and analysis of these items underscore the ongoing vigilance of the defence forces protecting the region’s coast and beach areas.

I wonder what the story behind those items washing up near the resort is.
