The Cyprus-based folk formation, Sovatchii, is scheduled to participate in the 11th edition of the Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival. This event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at BMW Park in Munich. According to the group’s artistic director, Teodosi Teodosiev, the performance will feature a chamber ensemble presentation of “Dances from Southeast Bulgaria.” This piece, choreographed by Todor Bekirski and set to music by Stefan Chapkanov, is noted for its strong stage presence and emotional depth.
Sovatchii was established on October 1, 2015, by Teodosiev, who continues to serve as both the artistic director and choreographer. The group has cultivated a reputation in Cyprus for organizing major annual festivals, with a primary focus on uniting Bulgarian school and amateur dance ensembles, alongside singers and musicians of various age groups. The Expats Join Hands festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria.
The initiative originated with the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the inaugural event in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. For the 11th iteration in Munich, organizers anticipate attendance from over 100 dance ensembles and an estimated 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event, responsible for presenting all participating groups.
