Forces Distribute Seats in New Parliament

During a session in the parliament on Monday, the political forces allocated seating arrangements for the new 52nd National Assembly. Petar Vitanov of Progressive Bulgaria stated that the allocation of chairs, desks, or offices was a minor issue, indicating that the process proceeded smoothly among the political forces. Concerning the election of a National Assembly chairperson, Vitanov advised that parliamentary protocol suggests Members of Parliament should be informed prior to the first sitting.

He suggested that Galab Donev is a suitable candidate due to his knowledge and authority. Vitanov also raised concerns regarding the fight for justice and the need for urgent anti-crisis measures to control rising prices, noting that funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan are at risk. Zhecho Stankov of GERB mentioned that the seat distribution was achieved through consensus, with all parties showing understanding regarding the arrangement.

Nadezhda Yordanova of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) stated that while all parties will occupy seats in the front row, her group will be positioned on the far right. She confirmed that Democratic Bulgaria is nominating Gen. Atanas Atanassov for deputy chair.

Regarding the overall direction of the opposition, she stated their aim is to be a constructive and effective force. Miroslav Ivanov of CC-DB added that the seat distribution was smooth, and all parliamentary groups would have access to the National Assembly rostrum. Petar Petrov of Vazrazhdane emphasized that the focus should be on state issues, such as replacing the Supreme Judicial Council and addressing inflation, rather than office allocations.

The 52nd National Assembly is scheduled to convene on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
