Crafts Three-Metre Replica of Giro d’Italia Trophy for Third Stage of Race

A replica of the Giro d’Italia trophy is currently being constructed in Plovdiv for the third stage of the cycling race. According to Plovdiv 2019 Foundation Executive Director Kiril Velchev, the steel installation is slated for placement at the roundabout on Maritsa-Yug Boulevard, near the Water Palace, along the designated route. The replica is being produced by the artists Nedyalka Mitkova and Dimitar Mitkov.

The family noted that creating the piece presented a significant challenge due to the original trophy’s highly complex, distinctive, and recognizable shape. Known as the “Trofeo Senza Fine” (Endless Trophy), its design features a spiral ribbon that ascends and narrows, evoking the shape of an hourglass. The team stated that creating the piece is an honor and a major responsibility.

To ensure longevity, the artists selected stainless steel for the installation. This material allows for the replication of the polished effect seen within the original cup, while also recreating a delicate shine on the exterior. Once finished, the replica will be toned to match the original bronze color.

The total height of the structure will reach 4.5 metres, including a metal pedestal engraved with the year the Giro passed through the city and the Plovdiv logo. The entire installation is estimated to weigh approximately 1.5 tonnes, and spotlights will be installed at the base for nighttime illumination. Separately, BTA has launched a dedicated section, “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria.” This resource covers Bulgaria’s participation in the race, which is scheduled to pass through the country from May 8 to May 10, 2026.
