Caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova stated that the caretaker government’s tenure coincided with the emergence of global uncertainty. The Economy Ministry reported on Friday that during this period, the ministry collaborated closely with employers to identify effective support measures for businesses. Shtonova detailed that an initial focus was on revising the calculation method for monthly business compensation due to elevated electricity prices.
She noted that the original six-month calculation proved ineffective, allowing for a rapid change to a monthly basis. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of the European Commission’s approval to introduce temporary state aid for energy-intensive companies. This aid allocates EUR 334 million over three years, intended to maintain the economic viability of affected enterprises.
Addressing the impact of the military conflict in the Middle East, Shtonova stated that the government implemented several supplementary measures. These efforts were designed to mitigate consequences while carefully targeting specific sectors to avoid exacerbating inflationary pressures. Among these measures are liquidity provisions for transportation companies and agricultural producers, including government guarantees for lease agreements, which allow payment deferrals until the year’s end.
Additionally, the increase in toll fees has been postponed, affecting all economic sectors. Minister Shtonova concluded by emphasizing that dialogue between the ministry and employers is crucial for sound decision-making, a priority she intends to maintain and build upon.
