, Bulgaria Pushes for Formal Coalition Agreement of Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria and Common Centre-Right Presidential Candidate

The National Council of the “Yes, Bulgaria” party, a component of the Democratic Bulgaria coalition with Continue the Change, has mandated the proposal of a formal coalition agreement to its partners. The party’s press office stated that the current operational structure lacks a formal pact, and the proposed document aims to establish clear governance frameworks. This agreement will detail coalition management bodies, decision-making protocols, guidelines for the parliamentary group’s activities, criteria for candidate selection, and a unified personnel policy, while also aiming to eliminate party quotas in future elections.

Furthermore, the decision emphasizes developing a “roadmap for the creation of a unified democratic centre-right political entity,” which may involve parties outside the current coalition. The Council also directed the Executive Council to prepare for upcoming presidential elections, focusing on securing support for a common democratic centre-right candidate quickly. For the new parliament in Bulgaria, the decision set several priorities for “Yes, Bulgaria” Members of Parliament.

These include maintaining a clear opposition stance against excessive concentration of power and proposing right-wing fiscal measures in the draft state budget. Other legislative goals involve introducing a new Judiciary Act with updated criteria for the Supreme Judicial Council, advancing previously proposed anti-corruption legislation, and calling for the removal of state security protection for Boyko Borissov and Delyan Peevski. Healthcare reforms are also prioritized, such as requiring private hospitals to undergo public tenders for medicines and implementing SMS notifications for health services.
