, Bulgaria Pushes for Formal Coalition Agreement of Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria and Common Centre-Right Presidential Candidate

The National Council of the “Yes, Bulgaria” party, a component of the Democratic Bulgaria/Continue the Change coalition, has mandated the party to draft a formal coalition agreement with its partners. According to a statement issued Friday, the proposed document aims to govern the current operational structure, which lacks a definitive agreement. Key elements to be established include defined coalition management bodies, clear decision-making protocols, guidelines for the parliamentary group’s work, criteria for candidate nominations, and a unified personnel policy.

The agreement will also seek to eliminate party quotas in future elections. Furthermore, the decision prioritizes developing a “roadmap for the creation of a unified democratic centre-right political entity,” which could encompass parties outside the existing alliance in Bulgaria. In preparation for the upcoming presidential elections, the National Council instructed its Executive Council to begin preparations immediately to secure support for a common democratic centre-right candidate.

The decision also outlines specific legislative priorities for Members of Parliament elected under the “Yes, Bulgaria” quota. These priorities include maintaining a clear opposition stance against excessive concentration of power and proposing right-wing fiscal measures for the draft state budget. Key legislative goals also involve introducing a new Judiciary Act with updated selection criteria for the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

Other stated goals include advancing anti-corruption legislation, calling for the removal of state security protection for Boyko Borissov and Delyan Peevski, and implementing health measures for the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), such as mandating public tenders for medicines in private hospitals.
