, Bulgaria Pushes for Formal Coalition Agreement of Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria and Common Centre-Right Presidential Candidate

The National Council of the Yes, Bulgaria party, a component of the Democratic Bulgaria coalition with Continue the Change (CC-DB), has mandated the proposal of a formal coalition agreement to its partners. The party’s press office announced this decision on Friday. According to the statement, the current lack of a written agreement necessitates the document to establish clear governing structures and decision-making protocols for the alliance.

This proposed agreement is set to detail coalition management bodies, decision-making rules, principles for the parliamentary group’s operations, candidate nomination criteria, and a unified personnel policy. Furthermore, it aims to eliminate party quotas in future Bulgaria elections. A significant focus is also the development of a “roadmap for the creation of a unified democratic centre-right political entity,” which may involve parties beyond the current coalition.

The National Council also directed the party’s Executive Council to begin preparations for the upcoming presidential elections, working to secure support for a common democratic centre-right presidential candidate swiftly. Specific priorities were set for Members of Parliament elected under the “Yes, Bulgaria” quota in the new parliament. These include maintaining a clear opposition stance against excessive power concentration, proposing right-wing fiscal measures in the draft state budget, and introducing a new Judiciary Act with updated criteria for selecting Supreme Judicial Council members.

Other priorities involve advancing anti-corruption legislation, calling for the removal of state security protection for GERB leader Boyko Borissov and Movement for Rights and Freedoms leader Delyan Peevski, and implementing healthcare measures such as public tenders for medicines in private hospitals and introducing SMS notifications for health services.
