Outdoor thermal soaking pools filled with hot mineral water are a recent addition to the Ismena SPA Complex. According to the complex’s manager, Polina Boneva, these open-air mineral soaking pools are unique to Devin, operating year-round and drawing significant visitor interest. The facility functions as a four-season destination, merging modern architecture with the style of traditional Rhodope Revival houses.
The complex utilizes mineral water sourced from the Bedenski spring for its spa treatments. Guests, primarily Bulgarian tourists drawn by the tranquility of the Rhodope Mountains, alongside international visitors from Germany, Israel, Russia, and the UK, are often attracted to water-based therapies for recovery and relaxation. The mineral water’s alkaline properties are noted for their ability to cleanse the skin, stimulate regeneration, and support detoxification.
Treatments and immersion in the mineral water are particularly recommended for individuals with sedentary jobs or past injuries, as the heat and composition help relax muscles and improve mobility without straining the heart. Spanning 17 decares, the Ismena complex includes hotel accommodations, guesthouses, and landscaped park areas. The spa center features comprehensive facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, steam bath, Finnish sauna, jacuzzi, and aromatic baths.
In addition to the hot soaking pools, guests can experience contrast therapy in a 5°C shock pool, which the team notes improves circulation following heat treatments. The spa menu also offers restorative options such as volcanic stone massage and magnesium massage. The broader context of Bulgarian health tourism is highlighted through initiatives like “BG SPA: Salus per aquam,” which features over 200 certified spa and wellness centers
