Outdoor thermal soaking pools filled with hot mineral water represent a recent addition to the Ismena SPA Complex, according to its manager, Polina Boneva. These open-air mineral soaking pools are noted as the first and only such facility in Devin, operating year-round and drawing significant visitor interest. The entire complex is designed as a four-season destination, merging contemporary architecture with the style of traditional Rhodope Revival houses.
The facility utilizes healing mineral water sourced from the Bedenski spring for various spa treatments. Boneva stated that while Bulgarian tourists form the majority of guests, international visitors originate primarily from Germany, Israel, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Guests frequently seek water-based therapies for relaxation and recovery.
The mineral water’s alkaline properties are beneficial for skin cleansing, regeneration, and detoxification. The complex recommends immersion in the mineral water for individuals with sedentary jobs or past injuries, as the heat and composition help relax muscles and improve mobility without stressing the heart. Spanning 17 decares, the Ismena complex encompasses hotel accommodations, guest houses, and landscaped park areas.
The spa center features diverse amenities, including indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, steam baths, jacuzzis, and aromatic baths. In addition to the hot soaking pools, guests can undergo contrast therapy in a 5°C shock pool. The spa menu also offers restorative treatments such as volcanic stone massage and magnesium massage.
BTA reports on the region’s health tourism through its “BG SPA: Salus per aquam” feature, which covers over 200 certified spa and wellness centers in Bulgaria. This initiative is connected to the HEALTHXCHANGE SUMMIT, scheduled for May 11–13, 2026, in Varna, Sts. Constantine and Helena, Golden Sands, and Albena.
