Bulgaria’s Vitanov: In Few Days, We Will Be Called Upon to Take on Responsibility of Governing

Speaking from the Parliament rostrum on behalf of Progressive Bulgaria on Thursday, MP Petar Vitanov addressed the political challenges facing the nation. Vitanov cautioned his colleagues that the initial period of celebration would soon conclude, stating that the party would shortly assume governing responsibilities. He warned that in just a few days, the coalition would confront significant systemic issues, which he described as a “captured state.”

Earlier in the proceedings, Rumen Milanov, the most senior MP present from Progressive Bulgaria, opened the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly and administered the oath to the 240 lawmakers.

Following the formal opening, Vitanov outlined the immediate legislative hurdles for the incoming administration. Key among these tasks are the passage of the national budget and the resolution of outstanding treasury issues. Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity of controlling market speculation.

Progressive Bulgaria also identified the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council and the appointment of a new prosecutor general as critical strategic priorities for Bulgaria. Vitanov noted that achieving these goals requires a qualified majority. While he asserted that Progressive Bulgaria is instrumental in this process, he also stressed that securing these necessary votes will depend on the cooperation and support of other political parties.

The transition period, Vitanov concluded, will demand immediate and focused action from all involved stakeholders.
