Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), observed that the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) effectively partners with local communities to promote and preserve culture, using the efforts in Tryavna as a model. Joshi made these comments while attending the launch of BTA’s initiative, “Pencho Slaveykov Today,” dedicated to the 160th birth anniversary of the prominent Bulgarian modernist poet. Joshi expressed optimism that the collaboration between the national news agencies of India and Bulgaria would help elevate the recognition of Slaveykov’s work within India.
He noted that such events are valuable for cultural preservation, referencing the discussion held at the Slaveykov House Museum. This marked Joshi’s second visit to Bulgaria; he described Tryavna as a charming old town and stated his appreciation for learning about the development of Bulgarian literature. Following the museum event, Joshi, alongside BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev, toured the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art.
The relationship between PTI and BTA is formalized through a partnership agreement facilitating news exchange. Furthermore, the agencies collaborate within MINDS International, an association of 25 global news organizations including Reuters and Associated Press, focusing on information service cooperation. This visit followed Joshi’s participation in the MINDS conference in Vienna.
Before arriving in Sofia, Joshi also visited BTA’s national press clubs in Belgrade and Skopje, underscoring the ongoing professional ties between India and the BTA.
