Director General: By Organizing Talks about April Uprising, BTA Took Step towards People

Milen Mitev, the Director General of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), addressed a conference on the April Uprising, stating that the organization of such discussions by BTA is vital, noting that modern media must proactively connect with its audience to remain useful. This event concluded a series organized by BTA marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. Mitev emphasized that a full assessment of the current situation requires placing contemporary life within a broader historical framework, necessitating an understanding of both international contexts and national history.

He stressed the profound role of media in this process, given its influence on public opinion. According to the Director, the participants of the April Uprising exemplified core values: unwavering hope in their cause and a willingness to make significant sacrifices. He positioned the April Uprising as a pivotal and epoch-making event, identifying it as a critical link in the progression toward establishing a free and independent Bulgarian state.

However, Mitev cautioned that national pride must be managed responsibly, warning that history and national sentiment are frequently manipulated for various agendas. He asserted that it is the duty of both the media and scholars to foster national self-esteem—a pride rooted in acknowledging the nation’s history and accomplishments, rather than a sense of superiority.
