The novel Time Shelter has been published in Japan, according to an announcement from author Georgi Gospodinov on Facebook. Gospodinov stated, “I am happy to share that in April Time Shelter was published in Japan by the Kayakawa publishing house in Tokyo.” He further noted that, based on reviews, this represents the first Bulgarian novel published in Japan since 1989, marking a significant milestone for Bulgarian literature in the country. Currently, the novel ranks among the top five best-selling foreign publications on Amazon Japan.
Gospodinov also mentioned the translation process, noting that Kenji Terashima handled the Japanese translation. In a lighthearted addition to his post, he joked, “Gaustin speaks Japanese. And he arrived in Japan before me – we will settle this.”
Gospodinov’s work has achieved international recognition, with his books translated into numerous languages, including English, German, Polish, Dutch, Croatian, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Chinese, Arabic, and Brazilian Portuguese.
The successful publication of Time Shelter in Japan underscores the growing visibility of his writing in the Japanese market.
