Insurance Company Employees, Transport Sector Representatives Protest in Sofia, Demand Financial Regulator’s Resignation

Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, gathered in Sofia on Thursday to protest and demand the resignation of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration, involving various industry organizations and the insurer’s personnel, took place in front of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers, marking the first session of the 52nd Parliament. The protesters are demanding the resignation of the FSC and intend to march to its headquarters following the demonstration.

Their key demands center on the “immediate end to ongoing repression against the company” and a halt to the “criminal increase in prices of mandatory motor third-party liability insurance.” The demonstrators cautioned that continued protests would occur if their demands were not met, suggesting that other sectors impacted by rising compulsory insurance costs might also participate. The protest follows an action taken in early April when the FSC imposed a ban on DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance. This ban restricted the company from entering into new insurance or reinsurance contracts across any class, or from extending or expanding existing coverage.

The FSC stated that this measure was intended to safeguard policyholders’ interests and ensure the company’s solvency, citing alleged violations of market conduct rules and breaches of the Insurance Code as the basis for the action.
