Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to hold a series of consultations with the six parliamentary groups on May 5, according to the President’s press secretariat on Monday. Following these meetings, the Constitution mandates that the President appoint the Prime Minister-designate, who will be put forward by the largest parliamentary group, to form the government. The consultation schedule begins with Progressive Bulgaria, which currently commands 131 seats in the 240-seat Parliament.

Subsequently, President Iotova will meet with representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. After concluding the consultations, the President plans to issue a statement to the media. The parliamentary process is underway following the swearing-in of Members of Parliament on April 30, during which Mihaela Dotsova, an MP from Progressive Bulgaria, was elected as the Chair of the National Assembly.

These consultations are a key procedural step in the formation of the next government. The planned meetings will allow President Iotova to engage directly with the leadership of each major parliamentary bloc before making her formal governmental appointment.
