Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to conduct a series of consultations with the six distinct parliamentary groups on May 5, according to the President’s press secretariat on Monday. This meeting is a constitutionally mandated step preceding the formation of a new government. Following these discussions, the President is tasked with appointing the Prime Minister-designate, who must be put forward by the largest parliamentary group.

The schedule for the consultations begins with the largest faction, Progressive Bulgaria, which currently commands 131 seats within the 240-seat Parliament. Subsequently, President Iotova will meet sequentially with the representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. Upon concluding the meetings with all the parliamentary groups, President Iotova is expected to address the media to provide an official statement regarding the political process.

This procedural sequence follows the swearing-in of Members of Parliament on April 30th, an event during which Mihaela Dotsova, a member of Progressive Bulgaria, was elected as the Chair of the National Assembly. The consultations represent a critical juncture in the nation’s governance process, outlining the pathway for forming a stable executive branch following the recent parliamentary elections.
