Minister Gurov Commemorates April Uprising Anniversary

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov addressed the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising on Monday, emphasizing that freedom is now defined by collective choice rather than mere possibility. Gurov reflected on the historical context, noting that 150 years prior, young revolutionaries initiated the uprising to secure the right for all Bulgarians to choose their path—a right, he stated, that Bulgarians exercised recently. The minister asserted that freedom is not a singular event but an ongoing commitment.

According to Gurov, it requires sustained vigilance, critical thought, and the readiness to speak out when defending liberties. In a tribute to the heroes of the April Uprising, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for continuous civic engagement. In addition to his message, the minister shared a video clip on his Facebook account.

This video featured Gurov reciting a letter originally written by the Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev to fellow activists, including Ivan Grudov, Ivan Kavaldzhiev, and Georgi Stranski. The address serves as a reflection on the enduring significance of the April Uprising for modern Bulgaria. The statement from the minister underscores a continued commitment to the principles established during the historical period.
