Ministry’s Acting Secretary General Says He Has Been Pressured

In a video statement posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, addressed allegations of professional pressure. Kandev stated that he had received communications urging him to resign, characterizing the tactics as an attempt to coerce him through fear and habit. He emphasized that he would not yield to threats or undisclosed negotiations, asserting his commitment to continuing his work in his capacity as Secretary General.

According to Kandev, on Thursday, he received several calls from unidentified mobile numbers. During these calls, he was informed that an individual known by the nickname “Kartofa,” along with associates, was providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. Kandev alleged that this activity was organized by a former official within the Interior Ministry, identified only by the first name “Svetlyo.” He speculated that the objective of these actions was to fabricate wrongdoing and force his resignation.

The Secretary General publicly questioned the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the validity of the testimony presented that day and sought to identify the individuals directing the situation. Kandev concluded by stating his refusal to adopt a passive stance. He maintained that silence was not an option for him.

The pattern of alleged pressure, he suggested, was similar to previous attempts, but he declared his resolve to proceed despite the challenges.
