In a video message posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, stated that he has faced considerable pressure. Kandev addressed what he described as repeated attempts to undermine his position, referencing messages advising him to step down. He asserted that those who previously relied on silence and compliance are attempting the same tactics, which he characterized as leveraging fear.
The secretary general emphasized that he would not yield to threats or private negotiations. He declared his commitment to continuing his work according to established procedures. During his statement, Kandev detailed receiving multiple calls on Thursday from unidentified mobile numbers.
These calls informed him that an individual known as “Kartofa,” along with associates, were providing testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. Kandev alleged that this action was orchestrated by a former Ministry official named “Svetlyo,” suggesting the motive was to falsely implicate him and force his resignation. The acting general questioned the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the validity of the testimony provided by “convicted and criminally charged individuals” and sought to identify the parties behind the scenario and the timing of the actions.
Kandev concluded by reiterating his resolve, stating that remaining silent was not an option, and confirming that he would not withdraw from his duties.
