In a video message posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, stated that he has faced pressure. Kandev recounted receiving a message on Thursday instructing him to “Go home!” He addressed the situation by criticizing those who rely on silence and obedience, asserting that the current pressure tactics employ the same words and arrogance as before. He declared that he would not succumb to threats or informal arrangements, emphasizing his commitment to continuing his work as demonstrated over the preceding two months.
According to Kandev, he received multiple calls on Thursday from undisclosed mobile numbers. During these calls, he was informed that an individual known as “Kartofa,” along with associates, were providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. He alleged that this testimony was orchestrated by a former Interior Ministry official named “Svetlyo.” Kandev speculated that the objective of this effort was to implicate him in wrongdoing and compel him to withdraw from his position.
The Secretary General publicly questioned the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the testimony provided by “convicted and criminally charged individuals” that same day, and sought to identify the instigators of the scenario and the timing of their actions. Concluding his statement, Kandev reiterated his resolve, stating, “I will not follow their model. Silence is not an option.
I will not back down!” He maintained that he would not yield to the pressure, affirming that the situation was not the same as previous attempts to undermine him.
