In a recent video message posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, addressed allegations of pressure surrounding his tenure. Kandev stated that he received communications urging him to leave his post, characterizing these efforts as attempts to undermine his work. He asserted that those who previously relied on silence and compliance were employing similar tactics, describing the pressure as relying on fear and habit.
The Secretary General emphasized that he would not compromise his position to avoid confrontation. He stated, “I am not here to bow to threats and backroom deals. I am here to work the way you have seen over the past two months.”
Kandev detailed receiving several calls on Thursday from undisclosed mobile numbers.
He was informed that an individual known as “Kartofa,” along with associates, were providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. He alleged that this action was orchestrated by a former Interior Ministry official named “Svetlyo.” Kandev suggested that the objective of this coordinated effort might be to fabricate wrongdoing and compel him to withdraw from his duties. The acting Secretary General publicly questioned the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the testimony provided by individuals who were already convicted or criminally charged, and sought clarity on the motives behind the timing of these events.
He concluded by firmly rejecting the notion of silence as a viable strategy. Kandev affirmed his commitment, stating he would not follow the model of his accusers, maintaining that his dedication remains steadfast.
