More Measles Cases Reported, Bringing Total to 165

As of April 23, the total number of recorded measles cases in Bulgaria has reached 165, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. Recent reports indicate an increase, with six additional measles cases registered across the country. These new cases were distributed across several regions: Vratsa reported two instances, Lovech reported two, and each of Pleven and Sofia reported one case.

Addressing the ongoing public health concern, authorities noted that the first eight cases of measles were officially confirmed by the Ministry on March 19, originating in the Vratsa region. In response to the spread, health officials implemented measures, including ordering emergency immunization protocols for all children identified as having missed required vaccinations. According to Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients’ Rights Directorate at the Ministry of Health, significant vaccination efforts have been undertaken.

Since the beginning of March, a total of 20,000 children have been vaccinated against measles, mumps, and rubella. These proactive measures are central to controlling the spread of measles and safeguarding public health. The consistent monitoring of these cases and the ongoing vaccination drives underscore the commitment of Bulgarian health authorities to managing outbreaks and maintaining community immunity.
