On 150th Anniversary of April Uprising Held in Panagyurishte

A conference marking the 150th anniversary of the 1876 April Uprising was held at the History Museum in Panagyurishte. This event concluded a series of discussions organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) to foster dialogue regarding the significance of the uprising. Participants included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, BNR Director General Milen Mitev, Prof.

Georgi Valchev, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov, and others. BTA Director General Valchev stated that discussions about the April Uprising keep the memory of the martyrs alive. He highlighted that the talks, held across several revolutionary districts, emphasized the need to establish overarching goals before tackling necessary steps.

Valchev also announced that the 2026 Meeting of Bulgarian Media, organized by BTA, will focus on “Media and Leaders.”

Boyko Vassilev pointed to journalists like Zahari Stoyanov and Hristo Botev for their lasting impact on the uprising’s outcome. All speakers underscored that the memory of the April Uprising remains a relevant and enduring topic for contemporary Bulgarian public life.
