As members of the newly elected 52nd National Assembly convened for its inaugural session, various political groups and mps addressed journalists regarding their expectations for the legislative period, the election of the Assembly Chair, and the formation of a government cabinet. Rumen Radev, leader of the Progressive Bulgaria (PB) coalition, stated that the government structure must be finalized by May 15 to address numerous pending reforms. He identified the state’s finances as a primary concern, alongside the urgent election of a Supreme Judicial Council.

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov urged the new mps to uphold principles, referencing public demonstrations that previously led to a cabinet resignation. He noted that the caretaker administration had demonstrated that governance could proceed with integrity. Other parties articulated distinct agendas.

Tomislav Donchev of GERB-UDF emphasized cabinet formation and the adoption of the 2026 budget as paramount tasks. Meanwhile, representatives from Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) stressed the immediate need to elect the Supreme Judicial Council. PB’s Galab Donev announced that his group would nominate the Assembly Chair.

From the opposition benches, the expectations centered on accountability and reform. Atanas Atanassov of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria stated their focus would be monitoring powerholders
