Someone Begins Doing Their Job, They Get Framed with False Witnesses – CC Leader Vassilev

Following statements alleging pressure on Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev to resign, Continue the Change (CC) leader Assen Vassilev commented on Facebook. Vassilev stated that in Bulgaria, someone who begins doing their job is immediately subjected to accusations from false witnesses. He characterized the alleged threats against Secretary General Kandev as scandalous.

Vassilev further asserted that the necessary path toward a prosperous, just, and European Bulgaria involves the immediate replacement of the Supreme Judicial Council and a comprehensive review of the judiciary. His commentary was accompanied by a photograph of Kandev, captioned with “I won’t go home.”

Earlier, Kandev released a video message on Facebook, indicating he had received instructions to depart but affirming his refusal to comply with threats or private deals. The controversy escalated after Kandev was informed that several individuals, including a person known by the nickname “Kartofa,” had provided false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office on Thursday.

The statements highlight a significant professional dispute within Bulgarian governance. Vassilev’s remarks suggest a pattern where those performing official duties face systemic resistance. The differing accounts regarding the pressure on Kandev underscore deep divisions regarding institutional integrity and the proper functioning of state bodies.

The incident remains a focal point for discussions concerning accountability and the rule of law.
