Will Be Constructive, Responsible Opposition

Speaking at the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly, Ayten Sabri, an MP for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), stated that her party intends to serve as a constructive and responsible opposition. Sabri affirmed that the MRF will support policies that safeguard citizens’ rights and align with the national interest. Simultaneously, she committed the party to acting as a principled corrective whenever deviations from the principles of good governance, transparency, legality, democracy, or human rights are observed.

Addressing the need for clear policy direction amid volatile domestic and international conditions, Sabri outlined the MRF’s key priorities. These include enhancing the quality of life and raising living standards, ensuring economic stability and growth, modernizing the economy and agricultural sector, guaranteeing food safety, mitigating social and regional disparities, supporting young families, preserving traditional values, and advancing Bulgaria’s integration into the European Union. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive partnerships with the US and the Euro-Atlantic community.

Sabri asserted that the MRF’s actions will be guided by the principle of upholding the liberty, justice, and equality of every Bulgarian citizen. She argued that this approach is necessary to move beyond confrontation and restore a culture of political dialogue focused on common solutions. She stressed that democracy is an ongoing process requiring commitment to the rule of law and institutional accountability.

The MP concluded by appealing to the Parliament to exemplify political maturity, urging members to build consensus on critical issues for Bulgaria’s future rather than fostering division.

  1. It’s good to hear that the opposition plans to be constructive rather than purely adversarial.
