363 Kg Marijuana Worth EUR 3 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Crossing

Customs officers at the Lesovo border crossing seized a substantial amount of marijuana from a lorry transporting washing machines, according to the Customs Agency on Friday. The narcotics, which are valued at approximately EUR 3 million at judicial prices, were discovered during routine inspections. The incident occurred on Thursday when the lorry, bearing Romanian registration, arrived at the Lesovo border crossing on the outbound lane from Romania.

The driver, identified as a Turkish national, presented documentation indicating the cargo consisted solely of washing machines in transit from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria. He declared that there were no other items to declare. During a comprehensive customs inspection, officers discovered 25 boxes stacked atop the declared washing machines.

These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages of dry, green leafy substance. Field drug tests conducted on the contents yielded positive results for marijuana. Authorities subsequently seized a total of 362 kg of marijuana.

The driver has been detained, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated regarding the case. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is scheduled to submit a request to the court for the imposition of a remand measure of detention in custody.
