52nd National Assembly Opens

The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria convened on Thursday at 10 a.m. The opening session, as mandated by the Constitution, was conducted by the most senior National Representative in attendance, Rumen Milanov, an MP from Progressive Bulgaria, who is 78 years old. During his address to the legislative body, Milanov outlined two primary objectives for the new assembly: reinforcing the rule of law and maintaining national peace.

Following his address, he administered the oath to the 240 lawmakers. The oath requires members to swear before the assembly: “I do swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria that I will observe the Constitution and the laws of the land and will be guided in all my actions by the interests of the people. I have sworn to it.”

The proceedings included the playing of both the Bulgarian national anthem and the anthem of Europe within the debating chamber.

Members of the Vazrazhdane faction remained seated during the playing of the Ode to Joy. After the ceremony, the MPs were required to sign the oath documentation and submit it to the administration. The convening of this national assembly marks the beginning of the legislative term for Bulgaria.
