Students from Sofia schools participated in “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” a historical game organized by the Sofia Municipality. The event was held in Boris Garden Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The activity took place along the Prominent Bulgarians alley, where participating students, organized into teams, searched for monuments dedicated to national heroes and answered questions concerning Bulgarian history.
Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the event commemorates 150 years of a significant act of courage, aiming to inspire students to engage with history outside of traditional classroom settings. The teams followed routes connecting monuments to key revolutionaries, including Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski. By answering questions, the students collected pieces of a symbolic map representing the uprising.
Upon concluding the walk, each team composed a brief message to the Bulgarian people, drawing inspiration from their historical learning. The game’s concept was developed with the involvement of history teacher Emil Jassim and forms part of the Sofia Municipality’s cultural program, executed in collaboration with Sofia’s Regional Education Directorate. The initiative successfully brought students closer to the footsteps of Bulgaria’s heroes.
