The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 commenced on Friday and will continue through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this forum marks the 12th consecutive year of the event, which began in 2018. This year, 99 exhibitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany are participating, with an anticipated attendance exceeding 12,000 visitors.
The expo showcases the latest trends in recreational vehicles, including campers, caravans, and various outdoor and water sports products. According to Camping.BG founder Veselin Valev, interest in camping tourism within Bulgaria is increasing. Valev noted that equipment prices vary widely, ranging from approximately EUR 100 to EUR 100,000 for campers, with some models reaching significantly higher values.
He differentiated between campers—described as “a house on wheels” suitable for travel and short stops—and caravans, which are better suited for longer stays in one location. An alternative for budget-conscious travelers is the trailer, which requires towing. For novices, organizers recommend utilizing regulated campgrounds, which provide amenities like showers and toilets, rather than wild camping.
Bulgaria currently has over 200 campsites, with a focus on improving infrastructure, including better roads connecting sites to tourist attractions. Valev pointed out that the development of quality roads is crucial for the sector’s growth and attracting international tourists. The event itinerary includes practical advice sessions, such as converting vans into campervans and understanding weight limits (not exceeding 3.5 tonnes).
On Sunday, the focus is on responsible camping, in partnership with the For the Earth environmental association, featuring presentations on sustainable travel across various global destinations. The expo aims to provide attendees with comprehensive knowledge about the lifestyle of caravaning and camping.
