The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, extended congratulations to Rumen Radev following his victory in the parliamentary elections held on April 19. Speaking after attending the Conference of Presidents and Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic & Ionian Initiative in Skopje, the President conveyed support and emphasized the necessity of a regional cooperative approach. Siljanovska-Davkova stated that North Macedonia remains committed to cultivating “friendly and constructive relations” and fostering mutual understanding regarding the path toward European Union enlargement.
She confirmed that she had contacted Radev following the election results and later received a call from him. “I wished him success and said I believe that such strong support is a guarantee of stability,” she told reporters, adding that the electorate in Bulgaria appears to view him as a stabilizing political figure. She suggested this support could facilitate the formation of a government capable of implementing its stated program, noting her anticipation of arranging a future meeting.
Earlier, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski also congratulated Radev on his win, reiterating the importance of dialogue and maintaining positive neighborly relations. Commentary across North Macedonia regarding the election results in Bulgaria has largely centered on whether the outcome signals a potential shift in Bulgaria’s position concerning the country’s trajectory toward EU membership.
