Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian will open on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. This initiative falls under a broader program designed to support Bulgarian communities in Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Moldova, and Ukraine, implemented following Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025.

Ivanov stated that eight project proposals were approved for this support, with the assistance of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project for the Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche, submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, was one of these. The core objective of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture, including linguistic identity, by incorporating modern teaching tools suitable for contemporary needs.

Furthermore, it aims to encourage students of Bulgarian origin to gain knowledge and maintain their historical connection to Bulgaria. The support is particularly significant as the Bulgarian Sunday School operates within a mixed-population area. Established in 2014 by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, the school expanded its reach in the 2016–2017 academic year, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka (Kiliia Raion).

Beyond the language studies, the school offers extracurricular workshops in folk dance, traditional instruments, folk singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts. Currently, 341 students participate in these activities, taught by 45 teachers. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
