Accident Numbers Down in First Months of 2026, Says Labour Inspectorate Executive Director

By mid-April 2026, General Labour Inspectorate Executive Director Ekaterina Asenova reported a decline in the overall number of workplace accidents. Data indicates that 126 accidents have been reported to date, a reduction from the 157 recorded during the same period in 2025. Fatal workplace incidents dropped to 26, down from 36 in the corresponding 2025 period.

Furthermore, non-traumatic fatal incidents were reported at 14 cases, compared to 19 in the previous year. Asenova noted that statistics suggest 90% of workplace accidents are preventable through adherence to occupational safety regulations. Common causes cited include crushing, entrapment, falls from height, and impact from falling objects.
