Bulgarians Join EU Citizens’ Crisis Preparedness Online Debate

One hundred and fifty citizens representing all European Union member states convened online from April 24 to 26 for the second session of the European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness. The objective of the discussions is to develop concrete recommendations for enhancing the EU’s ability to respond to future crises, ensuring that actions taken under the EU preparedness union strategy are inclusive and directly address the needs of the populace. Participants deepened their examination of priorities identified during previous sessions.

Key themes under discussion include fostering citizen engagement, bolstering education and solidarity, promoting inclusion, maintaining the integrity of communication channels—including combating disinformation—and strengthening overall crisis management across Europe. Among the attendees are four Bulgarians representing Sofia, Burgas, Isperih, and Reberkovo. Speaking on behalf of the group, a participant from Reberkovo highlighted the ongoing necessity of discussing proposals for comprehensive educational training on crisis response, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical application.

This focus on education is intended to complement four other key areas of disaster and crisis response that the panel plans to address. The panel aims to synthesize diverse national perspectives into actionable strategies. The ongoing dialogue underscores the commitment of EU citizens to collaborative efforts that strengthen collective resilience.

The plenary session is available for live monitoring on the panel’s official website.
