Forces Distribute Seats in New Parliament

During a session in the parliament on Monday, various political forces finalized the seating arrangements for the new 52nd National Assembly. Statements from representatives indicated that the distribution of seats, desks, and offices proceeded smoothly, reportedly achieved through consensus among the participating groups. Discussions also covered the election of the National Assembly chairperson.

Petar Vitanov noted that proper parliamentary procedure suggests members should be informed prior to the inaugural session, while suggesting Galab Donev as a suitable candidate. Beyond procedural matters, several parties highlighted pressing national concerns. Participants emphasized the need for anti-crisis measures to control rising prices and expressed concern over the security of funds allocated under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Regarding group positioning, Nadezhda Yordanova of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) noted the arrangement of the parliamentary groups. Meanwhile, Miroslav Ivanov confirmed that all groups would have access to the National Assembly rostrum. On policy fronts, Vazrazhdane indicated support for legislative changes aimed at curbing inflation and replacing the Supreme Judicial Council quota.

CC-DB nominated Gen. Atanas Atanassov for the deputy chair position, while affirming their commitment to acting as a constructive opposition force. The 52nd National Assembly is scheduled to convene on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

The focus among the political forces remains on addressing systemic issues, including justice reform and economic stability, rather than internal logistical matters within the parliament.
