Has Sufficient Reserves of Aviation Fuel, Says Transport Commissioner

During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, addressed the ongoing energy crisis, assuring that the European Union maintains sufficient reserves of aviation fuel, capable of supporting operations for up to three months. Tzitzikostas stated that the recent cancellations of flights by some airlines are primarily attributable to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply shortages. He characterized the current energy crisis as unprecedented in its scale and projected a challenging summer ahead.

Furthermore, the Commissioner cautioned that the global ramifications could be severe if the conflict in the Middle East does not reach a swift resolution. In discussions concerning European resilience, Tzitzikostas highlighted the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves the modernization of 500 strategically important sites across the continent. On the economic front, he forecast a noticeable downturn in tourist arrivals originating from Asia heading to Europe.

The Delphi Forum, which continues through Saturday, April 25, hosts over 200 panels and discussions involving approximately 1,200 international speakers. Participants represent diverse sectors, including governments, academic institutions, and business entities, focusing their dialogue on themes of geopolitics, economic trends, and technological shifts.
